We’ve always been big supporters of the arts here at Karma Group – and of the written word, as evinced by our longstanding partnership with Ultimate Library, bringing a wide range of literature to our resort destinations around the world. Now we’re looking to take things a step further – by collaborating with the writers themselves to assist them in creating their original works.
We’ve teamed up with Writing Western Australia (WA) to launch a writers in residence programme that will allow established and up and coming writers from Western Australia and beyond to join us at one of our Karma Group resorts. The thinking is that a more established writer can act as a mentor to the early to mid-year authors whilst with us – including writers from Indonesia.
At the same time, we’ll build an itinerary that allows them to concentrate on the main task at hand – writing – whilst also engaging with the local community including local schools and charities that we work with. There will also be the opportunity for guests to engage with them during down time. Each writer will produce an original work during their 10 day stay with us.
The first Writers in Residence programme will begin next year, probably around March. We’re ironing out the details still, so watch this space for further updates on the inaugural Karma Writers’ Residency.
