Future Generation at Bali Life

Back in March, we reported on Karma Group Chairman John Spence’s generous US$30,000 donation to Bali Life Foundation – the wonderful children’s charity that we’ve been working with in Bali for nearly two decades. On 05 August, John visited Bali Life with his teenage son Columbus to see the brand new kitchen block and creative space the team have built. Father and son were also accompanied by Karma Kandara GM Shaun Dünhofen and his father Peter, and chef Joseph Antonishek, alongside Bali Life management and staff.

The highlight of the visit was the tour of the newly built structures, which are already being put to good use, providing a fully equipped kitchen where the children can not only benefit from delicious and nutritious meals, but also learn cooking skills themselves, as well as a creative space where the kids can learn a whole host of skills in a safe and stimulating setting. There was much excitement as the guests arrived – especially because John and Columbus came bearing gifts in the shape of 30 pizzas and tonnes of popcorn, ensuring bellies were as full as hearts! There was a real sense of connection and camaraderie throughout the day.

During the visit, John expressed his commitment to providing additional support to the Foundation further by pledging to purchase a much-needed new vehicle for transporting the kids. This generous gift from Columbus, estimated to be worth around $13,000, will undoubtedly ease the Foundation’s transportation challenges and enhance the children’s opportunities for education, leisure, and exploration.

It’s great to see the younger Spence following in his father’s philanthropic footsteps! The Bali Life Foundation trip not only showcased the meaningful connection between Karma Group and communities in Bali and the positive impact of philanthropy done well,  but also revealed the power of collective efforts in bringing positive change to the lives of those in need.

The spirit of giving and compassion displayed by John and Columbus Spence, along with their fellow attendees, serves as an inspiring example for others to follow. The Bali Life Foundation stands as a beacon of hope, reminding us all that every act of kindness, no matter how big or small, can make a profound difference in the lives of those less fortunate – and in our own lives too.
