Winter, Every Way Down

Within a single stay, Members at Karma Bavaria can toboggan, ski, snowboard, skate and snowshoe across the jaw dropping Alpine mountains surrounding Schliersee without ever repeating a slope.

The longest toboggan run in the area starts at Wallburg, forty-five minutes from the resort: six and a half kilometres through snow-laden pines, steering by heel and nerve alone. Members can rent sledges and helmets at the top rather than make the climb. Fifteen kilometres the other way, lifts haul skiers and snowboarders up Mount Stumpfling at Spitzingsee, snow cannons keeping the pistes dependable, with floodlit night skiing on Thursdays long after other resorts switch off. We step onto cross-country trails that begin at the hotel’s own door, climb aboard a horse-drawn sleigh over snow-packed lanes, or lace up skates at Schliersee’s open-air, naturally frozen Oberlandstadion rink. Snowshoeing opens untouched paths into the Bavarian Alps away from the queues, Karma Spa’s pool and sauna waiting for whoever gets back first.

Evenings belong to après-ski. We warm up with mulled wine by the fire before a Bavarian feast of Schweinebraten, Bavaria’s classic roast pork, and beer at Alpenclub, or a five-course dinner for anyone who skied rather than sledged all day.
