Recent visitors to Karma Kandara can’t fail to have noticed the iconic new Mentari Residences structure that marks the heralds the sixth and final phase of development at Karma Kandara. Well, we’re delighted to report that these stunning new apartments have now received recognition in the prestigious LIV Hospitality Design Awards, with a coveted Special Mention in recognition of its innovative approach to luxurious, low impact island living.
Karma Group worked with celebrated architectural firm Patterns in LA to develop two distinctive apartment buildings of 70,000 and 32,000 square feet. The architectural design brilliantly balances modern luxury with traditional Balinese influences, most notably through the eccentric roof shapes that echo Hindu temple architecture while maintaining a sleek, contemporary profile.
One building embraces an open courtyard concept in an homage to the Balinese garden courtyard design, with a central atrium anchoring the entire composition, while the other stands as a crystalline landmark within the landscape. The residences are complemented by a meandering swimming pool and new sports bar inspired eatery and gathering ground that enhance communal experiences throughout the property.
What particularly impressed judges was the thoughtful integration of local materials—andesite, lava stone, and timber – showcasing Bali’s rich craftsmanship and cultural heritage. These elements create a seamless connection between the built environment and the tropical surroundings.
Mentari Residences at Karma Kandara exemplifies sustainable luxury, offering residents an immersive lifestyle experience that honours Bali’s ecological and cultural context while providing modern comforts. This recognition affirms Karma Group’s commitment to creating hospitality spaces that respect and celebrate their unique locations.
