Founding Father of Dance

This festive season, Karma Kandara will play host to one of the most revered names in dance music.  Paul Oakenfold is one of a select few DJ/Producers that can lay claim to founder status: the Londoner helped establish Acid House in the UK and is responsible for some of the most recognisable dance music productions in history – some of which you’ll find listed below. What’s more, he continues to be a fixture on the circuit – a surefire party starter who’s been active in the music industry for more than four decades. He brings the same infectious energy to every set – alongside veteran skills that make for ecstatic and melodic musical journeys that play out on packed dancefloors across the globe. Catch him at Le Club 22, Karma Beach Bali on 28 December 2022 – plus look out for a special guest appearance at our Cali-wine-ication Season 04 happening. And in the meantime – Paul was kind enough to answer a few questions for us…

1. Welcome to Bali – is it your first time?

It will be my 3rd time to Bali. Love the island.

I started a club in South London called Spectrum, which became the birth of dance music as we know it today.

4. Are you surprised electronic dance music has become the global phenomenon it is today?

Yes, I am surprised it’s become a global phenomenon, but who doesn’t want to listen to great music and dance the night away?

U2 – Even better than the real thing
Massive Attack – Unfinished Sympathy
Madonna – Celebration

6. Describe a typical Paul Oakenfold DJ set?

Melodic and emotional

7. What is Balearic music?
