The best beach parties feel effortless, even though anyone who has thrown one knows better. Karma Beach Bali’s Summer Session had that quality in spades: around 150 guests on the sand beneath the Uluwatu cliffs, the sun sliding away and the Indian Ocean turning slowly to gold.
Presiding over the music, none other than Jon Sa Trinxa, the Ibiza pioneer who has played a foundational role in shaping the legendary Balearic sound of the White Isle since 1987. His genre-defying set drifted across the beach as day turned into dusk and DJ Suzanne and DJ Bobtutuvolley took the night into deeper territory, with LED drum percussion and a busy photobooth keeping the crowd loose and the energy high.
The food matched the mood. Group Executive Chef Joseph Antonishek and his team sent out roaming canapés of tuna tartare, freshly shucked oysters with yuzu kosho mignonette and lobster prawn pot stickers, then wood-fired pizzas, sushi straight from Kenji’s Corner, yakitori and grilled MB5 sirloin. Generous, and all the better for not making a fuss about it.
“Nights like this are what Karma Beach is for,” said Karma Kandara General Manager Rai Artawan. On this showing, few places do it quite so well. Better still, there is more to come as the summer season reaches its heights on the island.
