Karma Sanctum Soho has become only the second venue in the world to be inducted into the Global Club & Dance Hall of Fame, joining a refined and limited list of spaces recognised for shaping global club culture.
The honour comes courtesy of Alan “Big Al” Warman and Clara Griffin, founders of the Hall of Fame, whose project sets out to honour the people, places and pioneers behind electronic music’s evolution worldwide. Hotel founder Mark Fuller accepted the award alongside legendary DJ and producer Paul Oakenfold, one of the progenitors of acid house, in recognition of Sanctum Soho’s long-standing pull on the city’s music scene: a hotel that has, over the years, become something of a natural extension of Soho itself, drawing artists, DJs and industry names through its doors as readily as guests.
Fuller described the award as an appropriate “blue plaque” for the hotel, and intends to display it somewhere guests can’t miss. It’s a fitting distinction for a hotel that has never quite behaved like one: less a place to sleep off a night in Soho than part of the reason you had one.
