Koshary

An iconic Egyptian dish that represents a blend of flavours and textures. It consists of lentils, rice, pasta, chickpeas, and fried onions, topped with a spiced tomato sauce. Egyptians often customise their Koshary with additional toppings like garlic, vinegar or hot sauce.

Egyptian Potatoes

These tasty bites can be prepared in various ways, one popular dish is “Batata Harra,” where potatoes are cubed and sautéed with garlic, chilli, and coriander. Another well-loved preparation is the “Alexandrian Potato Casserole,” which includes layers of sliced potatoes, onions, and ground meat, baked to perfection.

Beef Kofta

Deriving from the Middle East and Mediterranean, this dish consists of ground beef mixed with various spices like cumin, coriander, and garlic, shaped into cylinders or patties, and then grilled or baked. In Egypt, beef kofta is often served with rice, flatbread, or in sandwiches with tahini or yoghurt-based sauces.

Kobeba

Also known as kibbeh, Kobeba is a traditional dish found in many Middle Eastern countries, including Egypt. It is made with finely ground meat, typically beef or lamb, mixed with bulgur wheat and aromatic spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. The mixture is often kneaded into a dough-like consistency.

Chicken Shawarma

Chicken Shawarma is a well-loved street food in Egypt and throughout the Middle East. Thinly sliced marinated chicken is typically stacked on a vertical rotisserie and slow-cooked to perfection. The marination includes a blend of spices such as cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, and garlic, giving the chicken its distinctive and flavourful taste.

  1. Unfortunately we found the food on Karnak to be very ordinary and lacked class. The flavours tended to be rather bland and I normally love all Middle East flavours!
Also tended to be very repetitive!

    1. Hi Steve and Leanne, we are sorry to hear that you didn’t love the food onboard but appreciate you taking the time to give us your feedback. We have passed this forward to our culinary team and will do our best to improve for future cruises!
