Tides and Trails: Scilly Swim Run

On 31st August, the Isles of Scilly played host to one of the UK’s most demanding endurance events: the Scilly 60 Swim Run. Athletes traversed the archipelago’s wild seascapes, combining open-water swims with trail runs across rugged headlands and tidal flats. Conditions were fierce — surging currents, shifting weather — yet camaraderie carried the field through.

Among the competitors was Helen Glover OBE, double Olympic gold medallist and recent guest at Karma St. Martin’s. True to form, she powered across the course to finish as the first female athlete, a reminder of both her grit and deep connection to these islands, where she trains regularly.

The evening closed in celebration at Karma St. Martin’s, where participants and supporters gathered to share stories against the backdrop of Atlantic skies. It was a night that distilled the spirit of the Isles: community, resilience, and adventure at the ocean’s edge.
