During Bali’s rainy season, when monsoon winds drive ocean plastics toward shore, the island’s beaches face their greatest environmental challenge. This January, Karma Royal Jimbaran’s team joined hundreds of volunteers in a coordinated effort organised by NGO Sungai Watch to tackle the plastic waste littering Jimbaran Beach.
The multi day cleanup operation, running from dawn to dusk, targeted the stretch of coastline at Kedonganan Beach, where recent storms had deposited significant amounts of ocean-borne debris. This initiative represents part of Sungai Watch’s ongoing mission to protect Bali’s waterways and coastline from plastic pollution and Karma was proud to be a part of the effort.
Collaborations like this one between Karma Group staff and volunteers and local environmental organisations demonstrates our ongoing commitment to preserving Bali’s natural beauty. With the rainy season typically bringing up to 80% more plastic waste to Bali’s shores than other times of year, such community-driven initiatives prove crucial in maintaining the island’s ecological balance and protecting its marine ecosystems.
