Karma Kandara lifeguard I Ketut Arya Wiartha continues to make waves (sorry) since emerging victorious in the annual Row for R.O.L.E canoe race back in May 2023, where he clinched first place in the arduous 13km male division, defeating over 140 competitors amidst challenging conditions.
Arya’s remarkable achievement caught the attention of Karma Group Chairman John Spence who was so impressed by Arya’s performance, he arranged for him to travel to Perth, Australia to train with local surf and rescue lifeguards from 10 – 28 March this year.
Under the guidance of experienced trainer Deborah Dean at the Cottesloe Surf Club, Arya undertook a rigorous 10-day program, dedicating eight hours daily to mastering essential skills. His training culminated in him earning an Australian SLSA Bronze Medallion, a globally recognised accreditation for volunteer lifesavers. This historic moment marks Arya as the first Indonesian from Karma to undergo such training at the Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club.
Now back in Bali, Arya’s newly acquired expertise will not only enhance safety measures at Karma Kandara but also empower his colleagues with advanced life saving techniques. This collaborative effort exemplifies Karma Group’s commitment to progress through global partnerships, setting a new standard for lifeguard excellence in Bali while giving Arya the opportunity to make the most of his prodigious talents.
