Winter Wonder in Carcassonne

Rising from the vine-striped plains west of Carcassonne, Karma Château de Samary is a Belle Époque dream steeped in more than two centuries of history – a place where the stories of France’s rural heartland unfold across stone, marble, and the scent of sun-warmed grapes. Now our exquisite 19th-century country retreat is extending its season beyond the spring and summer months –  due to overwhelming demand, it will remain open through the festive season and into the new year.

The land here has been cultivated since Roman times, its soils shaped by the hands of vintners, revolutionaries, and poets of the vine. In the 1880s, Claude Ancelme de Alcide built Samary at the height of the Belle Époque, its soft pastel façade ornamented with delicately arched windows that spill light into grand salons. Later, it bore witness to world wars and the slow rebirth of the Aude region into the world leading destination it is today –  where Mediterranean sun meets the shadow of the Pyrenees, the Canal du Midi glides lazily past ancient vineyards and the fairytale ramparts of the Carcassonne Citadel stand sentinel. And now you can discover the storied history of Karma Chateau de Samary in a new book researched and written By Sue Hills (www.ancestralfootsteps.com), available to browse on site.

Today, Karma’s careful renovation, presided over by talented interiors artist Tina Kirschener, restores Samary’s old world elegance married to contemporary comforts  – red marble fireplaces from Caunes-Minervois, intricate ironwork, and gardens fragrant with cypress and rosemary. The château stands once again as a sanctuary of art, heritage and hospitality in the heart of Languedoc wine country.

Karma Château de Samary is open for the festive season and beyond for the very first time due to its huge popularity with Members – so head to Karma Subito to book your winter escape while we still have availability!
