Karma has always been a staunch supporter of rugby union – from supporting young players and teams to working with top international stars of the sport as Karma Group Ambassadors. One of the teams that holds a special place for Karma Group and for Chairman John Spence is Rugby 7’s outfit Samurai RFC, based out of Bury St. Edmunds in the UK. Karma Group has sponsored the team since 2022.
Founded as recently as 1995, Samurai Rugby’s name was inspired by the exploits of the Japanese team in the Rugby World Cup that year. Today they are one of the best 7’s teams on the planet – a fact that is attested to by their successes this year across both men’s and women’s rugby.
Both teams this year played their hearts out and ended up winning the Super Sevens Series Championship – a remarkable feat given they were facing competition from around the world, including teams from Hong Kong, China and Japan.
The Women’s team faced Oxfordshire team the Hammerheads in the final and after a tight first half, pulled away in the second to win 17 – 7. Having already secured the Championship at the semifinal stage with a hard fought win over China, the Samurai Men’s team took on Loughborough outfit Scimitar Storm in the final leg, cementing their performance with a dominant 36-7 victory.
Huge congratulations to both teams and to the club as a whole – it’s a pleasure to continue to support their brand of world class rugby.
