The AFL Grand Final is one of sport’s biggest occasions. Every September, 100,000 people pack the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), a venue that has hosted the Olympic Games, Test cricket since 1877, and which was once memorably described as “a shrine, a citadel, a landmark, a totem” of Melbourne itself. On AFL Grand Final day, the whole city is in festival mode as the very best teams in the world go head to head in an epic showdown.
The Power of X’s third chapter gets you up close and personal with all the action at the MCG, as we serve up a two-night VIP weekender built around AFL access that most fans can only dream of. As always there are just eight places. The drop happens on 10 April at 10am AEST.
You’ll be based at Adina Apartments on Flinders Street, just ten minutes from the MCG and right in the heart of Melbourne’s vibrant CBD. The weekend opens with a welcome dinner at Chin Chin, a loud, joyful Southeast Asian institution on Flinders Lane that has had queues snaking out the door every night since the day it opened in 2011.
Then comes the main event. Before heading into the MCG, you’ll be at Hawthorn Football Club’s exclusive Grand Final Brunch – a behind the scenes ritual not open to the public, with bottomless drinks, live cooking stations, AFL star appearances and the kind of pre-match atmosphere money can’t buy. Then it’s into premium reserved seats for the match itself, preceded by a live performance from another Australian icon – none other than Kylie Minogue! Between them, composers Arijit Singh, A.R. Rahman and S. P. Balasubrahmanyam have provided the soundtrack to several generations of Indian life, moving millions with their compositions, performances and film scores. A.R. Rahman has scored over 150 films, including Slumdog Millionaire, and won two Oscars, two Grammys, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA. Arijit Singh is the voice behind some of the most-streamed Hindi songs of the past decade, and S.P. Balasubrahmanyam recorded over 40,000 songs across sixteen languages before his passing in 2020.
This June, The Candlelight Mehfil series pays tribute to all three across five evenings. A mehfil, in the classical sense, is an intimate gathering devoted to music and shared feeling – and that’s precisely what these events are: live instrumental performances in breathtaking candlelit settings, each paired with an exclusive members’ drinks reception before or after the show.
The series opens on 6 June in Bangalore with a tribute to Arijit Singh at DoubleTree by Hilton, before travelling to Chennai’s Museum Theatre on 13 June to honour S.P. Balasubrahmanyam. A.R. Rahman then takes centre stage — at Hyderabad’s members-only Quorum Club on 20 June, at Novotel Pune on 21 June, and finally on 27 June at Mumbai’s Royal Opera House, India’s only surviving opera house, for a closing night that should be something extra special.
