The chequered flag has barely settled on Monaco, and already our Power of X series finds its next crescendo. This time, there are no engines – only overtures. Welcome to Karma Curated’s Power of X: Puccini & Bocelli, a midsummer immersion in Italy’s most exalted operatic lineage in Tuscany.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness Andrea Bocelli performing live in his picturesque hometown of Lajatico, and experience Puccini’s Turandot performed where he lived and composed. Power of X returns with two operatic titans, experienced at source.Bocelli is not merely a tenor but a generational phenomenon. With more than 90 million records sold, he carried opera back into the mainstream, sending Nessun Dorma into stadiums and piazzas alike, and bridging sacred arias with crossover duets alongside global stars like Ed Sheeran and Dua Lipa.
First though, we celebrate the father of modern Italian opera, Giacomo Puccini as we attend the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago. Here, where he wrote many of his masterpieces, Turandot unfolds beneath open skies at the Gran Teatro all’aperto – opera returned to its elemental setting.
The following night, Bocelli himself performs at the Teatro del Silenzio – a specially constructed open-air amphitheatre in his hometown, which lies dormant all year save for this annual sell-out gathering. His voice rises above wheat-gold fields and cypress-shadowed slopes in a performance that is part concert, part pilgrimage.
