Valentine’s Day dates back to Roman times (St Valentine was actually a martyr but we won’t dwell on that!) but really gained traction in the Middle Ages – both Chaucer and Shakespeare celebrated Valentine’s Day in their work and people would woo their lovers with handmade cards as tokens of their affection. But what really turned Valentine’s into a global phenomenon was its arrival in the Americas, where around 1913 a company in Kansas started mass-producing Valentine’s Cards… that company was called Hallmark and the rest, as they say is history!
We’re big fans of Valentine’s Day here at Karma Group of course – as anyone who’s stayed at our resorts or visited our eateries on the special day can attest. 2022 is no different, with a raft of Valentine’s offers available. You can even celebrate it in Shakespeare country – Karma Salford Hall where there’s still time to book a great-value Valentine’s package featuring an indulgent dinner specially prepared by chef James Woodham.
Or treat your other half to a short break in Scotland at our newly minted lakeside residence, Karma Lake of Menteith near Stirling. Over in Bavaria, enjoy the romance of the Alps – or perhaps a horse and carriage ride round Lake Schliersee, followed by dinner for two at Karmasee Restaurant. And for the ultimate expression of devotion – Karma Kandara’s setting on a Balinese cliff top over the Indian Ocean can’t be beaten – especially when you’re sitting down to an exquisite fine-dining experience curated by award winning chef Joseph Antonishek.
