Karma Travel Intelligence: Egypt Escapes & Bali Routes

Given the current geopolitical climate it’s hardly surprising that many Members have been asking us about Egypt’s security as a destination. Every major Western government advisory body answers positively. In fact, the Nile cruise corridor has never looked better. Getting there requires a little planning, and we’re here to provide exactly that – and hopefully a little reassurance too!

Luxor, Aswan and Cairo sit between 400 and 900 kilometres from any conflict zone. The UK Foreign Office, Australia’s DFAT and the US State Department all maintain standard advisory levels for Egypt and none advise against visiting the tourist heartland. Egypt welcomed close to 19 million international tourists in 2025, near historic highs, and the long-planned Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza, the world’s largest archaeological museum, has just opened its doors to visitors.

Karma Karnak Nile Cruise · Luxor to Aswan

Spring temperatures in the low to mid 20s make this a wonderful time of year to cruise the Nile. The temples of Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Abu Simbel are all fully operational and all magnificent. Egyptologists, shore excursions and mooring infrastructure are running at full capacity.

For UK Members the routing is simple: British Airways and EgyptAir both fly direct from Heathrow to Cairo daily, with EgyptAir and easyJet offering direct services to Luxor as well. No Gulf connection is required. Indian members have an equally straightforward option, as EgyptAir operates direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Cairo.

We have just returned from almost 2 weeks in Egypt ….. including a week on Karma Karnak. Well worth doing – both those offered on the Karma cruise and those we organised through Karma when in Cairo. The excursions off the boat were very good, and our guide, Moshem was very informative and spoke very good English. …we had a great time, loved the history and loved meeting some great people!

Just back from our Nile cruise. We were sailing between Edfu & Aswan when the war broke out! Spent almost 3 weeks in Egypt, & saw all the sites, & thoroughly enjoyed it all! Egypt doesn’t have a US base, so it is safe so far. Who knows what’s going to happen with the war, but I’d go ahead & enjoy it. Just don’t book flights via ME countries.

Australian travellers will need to route via Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok or Hong Kong in place of the currently disrupted Gulf hubs. Routes are available, but seat availability on the best options is tightening so early booking is strongly advised.

Jetstar opens Melbourne to Bali: A new gateway for Karma Members

Jetstar has launched a direct service between Melbourne and Bali, adding affordable and convenient nonstop connectivity between two of the airline’s biggest markets. For Members travelling from Victoria and regional southern Australia, this removes the need to transit through Sydney or connect via a full service carrier, making a Bali escape considerably more accessible.

The route complements existing services from Sydney, Perth and Brisbane and broadens the reach for guests heading to Karma Jimbaran, Karma Kandara and the wider Bali portfolio. Combined with Jetstar’s existing Bali network, there is now more direct and affordable access to the island from Australia’s east and west coasts than at any point in recent years.
