As you will have learned from last week’s Chairman’s Session, John Spence is a huge fan of Cirque du Soleil – which makes sense, given his bohemian leanings and Karma Group’s emphasis on world class entertainment! Since this is our philanthropy issue, we thought we’d give some more insights into the One Drop Initiative which Karma Group is supporting.
For the last 15 years, Cirque du Soleil has been working with non-profit organisation the One Drop Initiative to improve access to water for millions around the world. Access to water is a fundamental human right and it connects with other vital issues like gender equality, health, education and of course climate change.
One Drop Foundation ensures that at risk communities around the world have access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene. But ultimately it isn’t just about water – it’s about people and the values, emotions and experiences that access to water engenders – dignity, joy, relief, quality of life, opportunity, empowerment…the list goes on.
That’s where One Drop Foundation shares its DNA with Cirque du Soleil – in showing people what is possible, creating a sense of connection, telling uplifting stories. The partnership has been able to raise millions of dollars to provide access to water by donating a proportion of ticket sales at Cirque du Soleil events as well as through corporate partnerships.
