Egypt Is Closer Than You Think

Egypt’s main tourist destinations — Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, the Red Sea coast — remain fully open and operating normally. Of course, regional headlines have rattled traveller confidence, but the reality on the ground tells a different story. Egypt specialist Malaka Hilton puts it plainly: “Egypt is open, and it is operating as normal.”

Getting there is easier than you might think. From the UK, British Airways and EgyptAir fly direct to Cairo in under five hours, while EasyJet operates direct flights from Gatwick to Cairo, Luxor and Hurghada. For Egypt-bound travellers from Europe, straightforward connections through Athens or Rome keep journey times sensible. The smartest routing from the UK? Fly direct to Luxor, explore Upper Egypt, then head north to Cairo and the pyramids before flying home.

And in fact, the timing when it comes to on the ground experiences has never been better. The Grand Egyptian Museum – twenty years and $1.2 billion in the making — opened in November 2025, gathering Tutankhamun’s complete treasures under one magnificent roof near the Giza pyramids.

From there, head south to Luxor and board Karma Karnak, Karma Group’s four-deck river cruiser, for a seven-night voyage to Aswan and back — drifting past the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Horus, and the island sanctuary of Philae.

If you have questions, your Karma Concierge is at your disposal to allay any concerns and to help you figure out the best itinerary and travel routing. Egypt is very much open for business – and we can’t wait to introduce you to its millennia-old wonders.
