Nestled at the foot of the iconic limestone cliffs in Bali’s southern reaches, Karma Beach has long been the island’s premier oceanfront playground. Now, this pristine crescent of white sand cradled by dramatic rock faces elevates its offering with The Beach Shack – a bold culinary venture that channels India’s spice mantra into Uluwatu’s exclusive enclave.
The journey begins with a descent aboard Karma Kandara’s newly renovated cliff funicular, which glides through tropical foliage before revealing the turquoise expanse of the Indian Ocean. Here, where water meets pristine sand, stands the 70-seat Beach Shack – an architectural love letter to Goa’s languid coastal aesthetic, where bamboo, sand and weathered wood create an atmosphere of barefoot sophistication.

“We wanted to transport guests to India’s western coast while celebrating our spectacular Balinese setting,” explains Chef Joseph Antonishek. To do so, Joe enlisted the services of Chef Jeevraj – a man with an encyclopaedic knowledge of Indian cuisine and a deft culinary touch to match. Some of his standout creations include Laal Mas – slow-cooked mutton enriched with Rajasthani chilli and aromatic bay leaf – and the Kerala Prawn Moilee, where locally-caught prawns swim in a golden pool of turmeric-infused coconut curry punctuated with curry leaves and poppy seeds. Vegetarians find equal consideration with dishes like Kadhai Paneer, featuring house-made Indian cheese in a robust tomato makhani gravy.
“The menu celebrates both commonality and contrast,” says Chef Joe. “Coconut milk and curry leaves provide familiar anchors for Balinese palates, while our chilli-forward offerings satisfy those seeking heat.”

The Beach Shack space seamlessly transitions from sunrise breakfasts to candlelit dinners, with the afternoon sun casting ever-shifting patterns across the dining area. Members enjoy exclusive morning service and the venue welcomes outside guests for lunch and dinner, while accommodating private events beneath its shade-giving canopy.
As dusk approaches and the Uluwatu surf transforms into liquid gold, The Beach Shack emerges as more than a restaurant – it’s a sensory crossroads where India’s culinary soul meets Bali’s legendary coastline in perfect, flavour-rich harmony.
