Bollywood produces 1,000 films each year that are watched by an audience around the 3 billion mark – not only in India, but across Africa and Asia and amongst diaspora communities in countries across the globe. They’re also shot in stunning locations around the world – including some of our favourite Karma Group destinations – here are a few favourites to whet your appetite for your next Karma holiday.
In Greece, Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji’s romantic drama “Chalte Chalte” (2003) captured the windswept beauty of Mykonos, where Karma’s Pelikanos estate welcomes guests to the same Aegean vistas that enchanted audiences worldwide.
Thailand’s pristine beaches have starred in numerous Bollywood hits. Hrithik Roshan’s debut “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai” (2000) featured the sublime Phra Nang beach, while “Ready” (2011) showcased Bangkok’s iconic landmarks during Salman Khan’s energetic “Dhinka Chika” dance sequence. The youthful “Student of the Year” (2012) filmed its popular “Radha” song in Koh Samui – just a stone’s throw from our very own Karma Panalee.
Scotland’s lush highlands have provided romantic backdrops for classics like “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” (1998), with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol dancing through misty landscapes, rolling hills and ancient forests that visitors to Karma Lake of Menteith can now explore themselves in the magical Trossachs.
In Italy, Ranbir Kapoor’s “Bachna Ae Haseeno” (2008) captured Tuscany’s rolling hills during the soulful “Khuda Jaane” song, which showcased the same timeless beauty that surrounds the recently renovated Karma Borgo di Colleoli.
And India itself of course hosts numerous Karma locations featured in Bollywood. Goa’s beaches starred in the friendship classic “Dil Chahta Hai” (2001) and the introspective “Dear Zindagi” (2016). The regal palaces near Karma’s Rajasthan properties appeared in “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” (2013) and the golden deserts of Jaisalmer formed the backdrop for “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” (1999). Even closer to home – the desert scenes in the hit adventure film 777 Charlie (2022) featuring an adorable labrador were actually filmed at our very own Karma Golden Camp in Jaisalmer!
From Bali to Manali, Bollywood continues to dance, romance, and create magic in the same paradise destinations where Karma Group invites travelers to write their own unforgettable stories.
