7 Tips for Turning Travel into Transformation

The idea of travel changing you is not new – in fact it’s become a bit of a cliche and as a result, lost some of its power as a holiday maxim. And yet a simple shift in mindset and a few simple, practical travel hacks can indeed turn travel into transformation…

1. Arrive earlier than planned.
Whether it’s Karma Kandara or Karma Bavaria, the first unhurried hour sets the tone for the rest of your adventure. Give yourself a long moment to settle in before you set out.

2. Eat where our staff eat.
From Goa to Tuscany to Vietnam, ask our Karma Group staff where they eat at least once. You’ll end up somewhere unpolished, generous, lipsmackingly delicious and entirely local.

3. Walk without snapping.
Leave the phone back at the resort and wander Jaipur’s Old Town or the ramparts of Carcassonne with your eyes and mind as your recording device. Memory sharpens when there’s nothing to upload.

4. Learn one small thing properly.
A yoga flow in Kochi, a pasta shape in Italy, a cold-water swim in Scotland – depth beats novelty every time.

5. Change your scale.
Trade cities for hills in the English countryside, or swap a European capital for rural Portugal. Perspective follows space. If you live in the countryside, do the opposite!

6. Travel off-tempo.
Visit Bali between seasons, London midweek, or Florence in winter. Places reveal themselves far from the madding crowd.

7. Let the place lead.
Karma Group resorts are built for this. Stay long enough, wander often enough, and let the experiences seek you out.
